  • Background: Brown Thomas Arnotts' emissions-reduction targets has been approved by the United Nations Global Compact's Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
  • Description: The Paris Climate accord aims to keep the level of global warming to no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Brown Thomas Arnotts, which owns both Brown Thomas outlets around the country and the Arnotts department store in Dublin, has become Ireland's first retailer to commit to these science-based climate targets. The firm is also committed to bringing transparency to its entire supply chain. 
  • Impact: In less than 10 years time, Brown Thomas Arnotts aims to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50.4%. It also aims to reduce absolute scope 3 emissions from goods and services it buys by 15% by 2030. By 2025, Brown Thomas Arnotts will ensure materials used come from certified or verified sustainable sources.
