Unique Escalator and new Retail Spaces at KaDeWe

This fall, KaDeWe department store in Berlin opens 14,000m2 of renovated retail space with many modern, ground-breaking and refreshing concepts. After five years of constant renovations, the next big milestone is now imminent. The absolute highlight is the new escalator. As an architectonic masterpiece, it establishes a connection between tradition and modernity. Spiral-shaped and open at the top, it offers customers an open view of all the floors while riding the escalator. It was designed by Ellen van Loon from OMA, the world-known Dutch practice founded and headed by architect Rem Koolhaas. OMA oversees the master plan for the entire KaDeWe. On the evening of September 30, 2021, the stunning Beauty Hall as well as the Women’s and Men's Designer Fashion quadrants will be officially opened with a thrilling fashion show alongside the escalator. Along with leading figures from politics, industry, show business and sports and in front of the eyes of trendsetters from the Berlin design and creative scene, main lines from Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga, Versace, Valentino and other brands will be showcased in an exclusive fashion show on the escalator.
