In view of shrinking revenues and changing shopping habits, Manor is planning to expand its online offering which should be increased fivefold by the end of 2024. The Swiss Department Store won 100,000 online customers during the Corona closings. The group is also adapting its organizational structure, that will lead to the reduction of 385 jobs in the department stores business and 91 positions at the headquarters in Basel, where 830 employees are employed. Manor has a total of around 8,900 employees.
The organizational structure in the stores will be standardized in order to increase the focus on customer service. In the non-food sector, the company wants to concentrate more on its core businesses of fashion, beauty and household. When it comes to food, the future focus will be on fresh products and Manora gastronomy. In Switzerland, Manor operates 59 department stores, 30 food supermarkets and 27 restaurants. In January, Manor announced the grouping of 59 department stores into 28 groups, which are run by a store director. The corona crisis has torn a big hole in the cash register, as the group expects a loss of CHF180mn in sales this year. Sales should decrease by 10 to 15%.
