For 2023 Lunar New Year celebrations, Nordstrom commissioned Stevie Shao, a second-generation Chinese American artist and Seattle native, to create illustrations for the Year of the Rabbit and the Vietnamese Year of the Cat. When the pandemic hit and businesses started boarding up, she quickly found opportunities to paint on large plywood boards for the first time. Using her bold, hi-vis aesthetic and uplifting messages like ‘It's gonna be okay’ and ‘Take care,’ her murals brought life, color and comfort during a bleak time. Now, she's one of the region's most in-demand illustrators and muralists. Her artwork is available in stores and online.
