An Artful Collaboration at Globus

The Kueng Caputo, winners of the Swiss Grand Prix for Design 2020, have turned the eight Globus department stores into vibrant conversation pieces. The artistic duo Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo have created their own interpretation of ‘art replaces the product’, letting each window tells its own story. “We started by asking ourselves what people long for right now. And our answer was: they want to get a sense of awe and experience something that is exactly as it seems.

This satisfies their yearning for freedom in an overly-regulated world where your gut instinct doesn’t count for anything anymore,” Sarah Kueng explainsed. For the Globus window displays, Kueng Caputo turn items of daily use into art: fans and umbrellas merge into an animated, wind-powered objet d’art and rubber granulate is manipulated, hourglass-like, to form huge, colourful mountains. Once the installations are dismantled in April 2021, a number of lucky Globus customers will take home a piece of art: the rubber granulate that was used in the Globus installations will be melted down and turned into a limited run of exactly five editions of 30 one-of-a kind, signed floor rugs that will be available for purchase from August 2021. The unique, eye-catching Kueng Caputo windows can be seen at the Globus stores in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Locarno, Lucerne, St. Gallen and Zurich – and more colourful collaborations are in the pipeline.
