The COVID-19 epidemic is affecting the entire world and its population. The impact of the outbreak to the department store industry and its stakeholders is significant and stressful.
Since Europe is facing a resurgence of the C19 outbreak, some countries have taken tightening measures to fight the pandemic: As of 12 November, 34 out of 44 IGDS members could open all of their stores, however three of them had to close their in-house restaurants and cafés. Six countries impose regional or national lock-downs, including department store closings: Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, UK and Switzerland. One member has closed its store for a full refurbishment. Another member just announced that it will close its stores permanently.
