- IGDS | Destination Department Store | COVID-19
The COVID-19 epidemic is affecting the entire world and its population. The impact of the outbreak to the department store industry and its stakeholders is significant and stressful.
By 25th May, 84% of IGDS department store members are fully open or could reopen some of their stores where local authorities allowed it, a very different situation from one month ago when 81 % of our members had to close their doors. For an overview, please click here.
Countries where department stores are still closed include England, Ireland, Mexico, Russia and Singapore. E-commerce and food departments are operating where possible.
The IGDS Secretariat is monitoring the situation closely and is actively informing its members with several services and through various channels at members’ disposal.
As communicated, our 7th Global Department Store Summit, which was due to be held in Seattle in May 2020, is now postponed to commencing week of 7-11 June 2021.
