The COVID-19 epidemic is affecting the entire world and its population. The impact of the outbreak to the department store industry and its stakeholders is significant and stressful.
The situation has not evolved since our last report and some countries in Asia are still imposing strict measures to curb the virus spread. In Europe, stores are open, however certain countries are facing a resurgence of the pandemic.
As of 16 August 2021, 37 out of 43 IGDS members could open all of their stores, under the usual opening schedule and sanitary measures. Six department stores are operating with limited capacity (reduced opening hours, limited # of customers instore, stores closed in certain region or up to a certain surface).

The IGDS Secretariat is monitoring the situation closely and is actively informing its members with several services and through various channels at members’ disposal.
