  • Background: Nearly 773 million plastic beauty containers end up in landfills across Canada every year. In an effort to curb the waste, Holt Renfrew is collaborating with TerraCycle to help customers responsibly dispose of beauty packaging waste.
  • Description: The year-round Beauty Recycling program offers customers the opportunity to bring all brands of empty and used beauty product packaging to select Holt Renfrew retail locations, where customers can drop off and recycle the empty packing in the provided TerraCycle® Zero Waste Boxes™. Holt Renfrew is also working with TerraCycle to collect and recycle disposable masks in-store and reduce the wave of single-use items used during the pandemic from reaching landfills.
  • Impact: As most curbside recycling programs in Canada do not accept empty beauty packaging, most end up in landfills. The TerraCycle boxes at Holt Renfrew allow hard-to-recycle, single-use beauty packaging to be recycled. When full, the Zero Waste Boxes will be returned to TerraCycle for processing and the collected waste will be cleaned, melted and remoulded to make new products.
