El Corte increased its sales by 7% during the last Christmas campaign, above those of 2019. The company's sales during the first two weeks of sales, which began on January 6, have grown by 10%. According to forecasts, El Corte Inglés should register a gross operating result (EBITDA) of €1bn in the period, similar to the figure obtained in 2019, when net profit amounted to €310mn.
The company is in the midst of adjustment with the aim of reducing structural costs. As part of this strategy, the department store company hired Accenture in November to design a plan to improve efficiency and margins. The strategy includes robotizing certain tasks carried out by people, specifically in the area of logistics and customer service.
