David Jones has been a mainstay of Melbourne shopping since the ’60s, traditionally known for fashion, homewares and beauty products. David Jones has been making moves into food retail, opening food stores in recent years at its Bourke Street (CBD), Malvern Central and Glen Waverly locations. Today the retail giant has opened its first standalone food store in South Yarra. The polished yet simple 425m2 store is modelled after David Jones’s existing food shops and will stock on-the-go snacks; ready-to-go meals; fresh produce; charcuterie; as well as cheeses from Will Studd, L’Artisan and Saint Agur. As well as David Jones’s own wine label there will be a range of drops from wineries including George Duboeuf from Burgundy, Isole e Olena from Tuscany and The Other Wine Co from the Adelaide Hills. In partnership with Collingwood-based plant shop Plant Society, David Jones Food Capitol Grand will also sell indoor plants, pots and flowers. Customers can also grab a coffee made with beans from Sensory Lab.
