South Korea’s three largest department store operators are expected to generate more than KRW 3tn ($1.94bn) in sales from foreign customers this year, setting a new record as inbound tourism continues to recover. According to retail industry sources on Monday, Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, and Hyundai Department Store have each internally set a target of generating more than KRW 1tn (US$600mn) in foreign customer sales by the end of the year. Given that the three companies posted combined foreign customer sales of KRW 2tn last year, they are on track to achieve growth of around 50% this year. Shinsegae Department Store posted a 137% increase in foreign customer sales through May. Its foreign customer sales totaled KRW 650bn last year. According to the data released by the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute, the number of foreign visitors to Korea is expected to reach 22mn this year, up approximately 17.6% from 18.7mn in 2025.
