Hongkong Land has officially opened WF Central, its US$1.2bn first flagship retail-led project in Beijing. The retail complex will play a crucial role in the redevelopment of the historic Wangfujing area of Beijing into a pre-eminent destination for retail, dining and commercial activities. It will draw from the success of Hong Kong retail complex Landmark and the shared vision of Hongkong Land and the Dongcheng District Government. With a footprint of more than 21,000sqm and a total gross floor area of more than 150,000sqm, the complex includes retail space of 43,000sqm and the 73-room luxury hotel Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing. It has five core categories: luxury, fashion, gastronomy, lifestyle and wellness, and art and culture. Its 130-plus tenants include 20 brands debuting in either Beijing or China. WF Central also provides a focal point for artistic collaborations with international organisations. These have already included the Barbican Digital Revolution exhibition, the opening of the Serpentine Pavilion Beijing and the launch of its cultural program, along with an upcoming Maison & Objet design showcase in September.
