Steen & Strøm continues to position the department store as a platform for Norwegian design. Through collaborations with initiatives such as Oslo Runway, as well as an ongoing focus on pop-ups and window installations, the department store creates visibility for local brands in a high-traffic, customer-facing environment. From 23rd April to 31st May, Myklé Heritage takes over the space with a series of installations that reinterpret rosemaling (traditional Norwegian rose painting) — a decorative art form dating back more than 300 years. Historically applied to wood in rural interiors, rosemaling is characterised by flowing floral motifs and intricate ornamentation, and is considered an important part of Norway’s cultural heritage.

The activation brings this craft into a contemporary retail context through three key installations: a ten-meter wall covered in rosemaling, three monumental silk scarves suspended in the atrium, and a window display where the L-Chair by Norwegian designer Silje Nesdal is transformed through hand-painted rosemaling by artist duo Gilles & Cecilie. Behind Myklé is designer Torunn Myklebust, whose background includes Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, and Chloé. The pop-up has been developed exclusively for Steen & Strøm and forms part of the department store’s ambition to strengthen its role as a physical and visual platform for Norwegian design.
