Selfridges has reopened its food hall at its London flagship, but the rest of the store and its other sites in Manchester and Birmingham remain closed as the lockdown continues. As food retailers are considered essential and can open during the lockdown, Selfridges said the reopening of its London food hall comes with “stringent” social distancing measures to keep staff and customers safe amid the coronavirus pandemic. Along with fresh food from the greengrocer, bakery, butcher and fishmonger, a range of household and pharmacy items will be also be available. The department store retailer is also offering essential food boxes and make-your-own kits to try a new skill at home for the first time. As with many other grocers, Selfridge’s food hall will operate with reduced opening hours, 10am until 6pm daily and 11am – 5pm Sundays. Selfridges said it would offer NHS, health and social care workers easy access to the food hall with free use of the carpark, a dedicated entrance and fast track check out. One food hall team member each week will also receive a fridge full of food as part of the retailer’s ‘Fullfridges’ initiative and in recognition of their service during the pandemic.
