David Jones hopes a "five-star hotel experience" in its revamped Brisbane store - with decompression zones, sound-proofed sections and a cafe out front - will lure customers from rival online retailers. The David Jones store in Westfield Carindale in Brisbane's south was chosen as the first store to be fitted out with the revamp, which has been 2½ years in the making. The design brings the store cafe to the front and features sound-proofed areas to give customers a break from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the shopping centre. The fresh beauty area is designed to be more relaxed and not overwhelm customers with the brands available. The revamped beauty section has a focus on wellness and a lighter, more casual feel. There is also a central concierge sound-proofed room featuring a customer service desk, a click-and-collect area, gift-wrapping counter and financial services. The fitting rooms have been given a facelift, with plenty of space for customers to try items on as well as a paypoint within, so customers don't have to walk across the store to pay for an item. The design will also be rolled out at David Jones' second New Zealand store, due to open within a month, and at the new flagship store in Sydney, due to partially open in December.
