For its 11th artistic invitation, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche welcomes Chinese artist Song Dong with the exhibition ‘Objets divers et variés - 百货 (bǎihuò)’, from 10th January to 22nd February 2026. A major figure of contemporary Chinese conceptual art, Song Dong imagines works for the department store in the windows of Sèvres, du Bac and Babylone streets, the heart of the store, the 2nd Fl., as well as the Primo Piano restaurant. Monumental installations that explore themes of memory by repurposing everyday objects.
Around the central escalator, Song Dong unveils two monumental chandeliers, suspended under the glass roofs and composed of six steel rings, adorned with white-lit bottles, evoking the sparkling pendants of a chandelier. Along the guardrails of the two openings, the artist deploys a set of curtains featuring his iconic motif of colored windows.
On the 2nd Fl., the artist imagines an immersive hall of mirrors composed of two installations built from colored doors and windows: a house illuminated by hundreds of lamps from his personal collection and a giant kaleidoscope, which offers a breathtaking view of the installations suspended under the glass roofs.
Song Dong transforms the 21 windows of Bon Marché Rive Gauche into artistic installations. The artist features everyday objects, both from his personal collection and objects loaned following a call for participation launched in October 2025, by customers and employees of Le Bon Marché. Mirrors, hanging lights and colored windows, distinctive elements of his work, enhance these objects, while paying homage to the concept of the ready-made. Through this collaboration which brings together the sublimation of everyday life, individual stories and Art History, the history of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche is also written, testifying to its role in the lives of Parisians for over a century and a half.
