Fashion sales in Mexico returned to double-digit growth. The sector closed Q1 of the year with its second highest YTD increase and was once again the fastest-growing category in Mexican retail revenues.
In March, revenues in the textile, fashion jewelry, clothing accessories and footwear retail sector rose by 12.3% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the latest Monthly Survey of Commercial Companies (Emec) prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). The March figure is the second highest so far this year, since in February, fashion sales in Mexico grew by 14.8%. In January, on the other hand, the sector increased its revenues by 11.8% YoY. Internet sales in Mexico grew even faster than fashion, with a YoY increase of 21.4%. The good performance of fashion contrasts with the black March for department and self-service stores, whose revenues fell by 1.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. On the other hand, average salaries in this type of trade increased by 3.4%.
