What We Keep - a sculptural cabinet by Australian designer Tom Skeehan – is the inaugural winner of the Powerhouse and David Jones Australian Design Commission. Inspired by the David Jones Archive, now part of the Powerhouse Collection, Skeehan’s work explores the intersection of retail and museum. A cabinet that balances display, concealment and preservation, it invites us to consider how objects are curated in our homes and in our lives. This work is deeply connected to our archive, which spans nearly two centuries of Australian retail, design and cultural history. What We Keep is a powerful reflection on memory, design and legacy, and a celebration of the next generation of Australian creativity. What We Keep is currently on display in the windows of our Elizabeth Street store.
